Today we will learn all about our solar system and a bit about the milky way.

Before I get, started I am going to clear a doubt which I had. Our solar system is the milky way. No, Our solar system is only a small portion of the milky way.

Milky way

The Milky Way is a galaxy in the universe that contains about 400 billion or 40000 crore stars and at least 100 billion planets. It is the second-largest galaxy a local group of galaxies.

Solar system

Our solar system contains the sun and 8 planets and 1 Drawf planet. It contains millions of stars

Sun

The sun is one big flaming star. It produces the heat that we get on earth. It has a temperature of 5504 celsius. All the planets revolve around the sun in their path.

Now let’s talk about the planets that revolve around it.

The Inner planets or terrestrial planets

Mercury

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It is also the smallest planet. The side facing the sun is extremely hot and the opposite side is super cold.

Venus

Venus is similar to earth in many ways but it does not have any natural satellites or magnetic field. It has lots of volcanic eruption that happen.

Earth

Earth is the planet we live on. It has 1 natural satellite, the moon. It has 70% of water and 30% of land. It is the only planet to have life. the population of earth is 7 billion.

Mars

Mars is the fourth planet. It is the second smallest planet in the solar system. It is red so it is referred to as the red planet.

The Outer Planets or the Jovian Planets

Jupiter

Jupiter is the 5th planet. It is the biggest planet in the solar system. It is a gas giant. It has 79 moons of which 53 are named and 26 are waiting for names. It is largely composed of hydrogen and helium.

Saturn

Saturn is the 6th planet in the solar system. It has rings 70000 km wide but only 1 km thick. It too is a gas giant like Jupiter. It has 81 moons.

Uranus

Uranus is the 7th planet in the solar system. It is famous for rotating on its side. It is the lightest jovian planet. It is an ice giant so it consists mainly of ice.

Neptune

Neptune is the last official planet. It too is an ice giant. It is smaller than Uranus but heavier.

Pluto

Pluto is a dwarf planet. It used to be an official planet but was removed in august 2006.

Here is a simple sentence to remember all the planets order wise.

My very educated mother just showed us nine planets.

Each word represents a different planet the starting letter of the word tells us what the planet name is.

That’s it from me see you next time. I hope you enjoyed my blog about the solar system.
